To sleep, perchance to dream

I don't want to brag - OR jinx myself! - but this is day two of Holly putting herself to sleep successfully. She was at her grandparents' yesterday and when I went to pick her up after work, I was informed that she had put herself to sleep for one of her naps.

Now, Pat and I have not actively started to train her to go to sleep on her own yet and it was something I was definitely not looking forward to. The training part, not the ultimate result. I was definitely looking forward to being able to kiss her goodnight, lay her down and letting her go to sleep on her own.

I was NOT expecting her to teach herself before we even started (not that I'm complaining, mind you!) the process. When I got her home last night, she took an evening nap and put herself to sleep and then did it again when it was time for bed. I was positively delighted at the progress. By the way, she turned 5 months yesterday, so what a gift!

Today I took her to school with me and told her teachers to just put her in her crib, give her her paci and her fleecie and let her go to sleep on her own. She took her usual multiple half hour naps during the day - after putting herself to sleep! She was tired this evening and I think she got the barest amount of shut-eye during dinner when I had put her in her pack'n'play (wasn't even out for ten minutes) and I accidentally woke her when I went to cover her up with her blanket (or when I changed the load of laundry from the washer to dryer - not sure which was the culprit). However, we continued with our evening with playing, fed her her bottle at 6:40, bath at 7:20 and then put her down in her bed by 7:40. She was asleep not five minutes later.

I am one VERY happy mama! Pat and I are most certainly blessed and I thank our lucky stars every day for our little angel.
